Disney has once again chosen Sardinia as a backdrop for the silver screen. Following The Little Mermaid (Disney’s 2023 live-action remake), which turned locations such as Santa Teresa di Gallura, Castelsardo, Golfo Aranci and Aglientu into fairytale settings, Star Wars has now landed on the island.

Lucasfilm recently chose Sardinia to shoot sequences of Star Wars: Starfighter, selecting Li Cossi beach and Isola Rossa in Trinità d’Agultu e Vignola for their striking landscapes. Among dozens of international locations, the island’s cliffs, turquoise waters, and untouched shores provided an extraordinary backdrop for the saga’s latest chapter.

The production involved around 200 crew members and generated significant local economic activity. Catering, transport, accommodation, logistics, and boat rentals all benefited, demonstrating the tangible impact high-profile cinema can have on regional communities.

Coordination was key. The Sardegna Film Commission, local authorities, and location manager Davide Beccu guided the project from scouting to filming, ensuring both operational efficiency and careful protection of sensitive marine and coastal areas.

Lucasfilm highlighted the inspiration drawn from Sardinia’s landscapes and praised the professionalism and warmth of the local team.

Ilaria Portas, Sardinia’s Regional Councillor for Culture, underlined the broader significance: the project created cultural and economic value, engaged local professionals, and respected the island’s unique environment.

Andrea Rocco, Director of the Sardegna Film Commission, described the production as a milestone, reinforcing Sardinia’s reputation as a hub for international cinema where natural beauty meets expertise and global ambition.

With dramatic coastlines, hidden coves, and a welcoming community, Sardinia proves itself more than a location — it is a cinematic destination where imagination and reality converge, offering filmmakers a stage as vivid as the stories they tell.
