Muros, late 1980s. Antonio is the son of Bobore, the town drunk and laughingstock, and his strict, silent mother Giovanna. Their neighbor is Maria, Antonio’s pious schoolteacher, who despises Bobore and everything he represents: a crude world inhabited by people lacking culture and morality. Through her role as a teacher and her faith, Maria tries to distance herself from this world. She also detests Antonio, seizing every opportunity at school to pick on him.
